Cactus Quilt Continues...

I got in the mood to quilt this weekend. I had my machine cleaned--first time in an unspeakable number of years--and have been itching to use it again. I first made a tomato for my Ruth McDowell vegetable quilt, but it was just too intensive for my current mindset. I was in the mood to wing it. I can wing it with these freehand-makeup-as-you-go cactus applique. This time I cut them out and ironed their edges under, pinned them in place, and sewed around the edge on the sewing machine. I can then embroider them when I take the kids to piano lessons. It was very quick.

I really like the yellow blooms on the prickly pear cactus. It's cut from a sunflower fabric.

I cut the edges to be tidy and then sewed borders around all 8 blocks. Now I'm doing the math to see how to fit them into rows to make it come out even. I like doing that for some reason. It makes all things seem possible.
