Met Paintings

I love Chagall for his dreamy compositions and use of color.

And although it isn't very politically correct, I have always liked Balthus.
I forget who did this one, but I open windows in paintings make me happy. I do keyword searches on ebay "vintage oil painting window." Now and then I find something interesting.

I like Thomas Hart Benton, his distinctive style that always makes me think of the 1930's and 40's.

And I have always loved Bonnard and Vuillard for there wonderful interior scenes and use of color.

There is something to be said for not knowing too much about someone. I read bits and pieces of a biography of O'Keefe the other night. The first part was very interesting, but the end was just sad. It's a biography, for God's sake! So I knew there wasn't going to be a happy ending. It's just sad, though, when someone grows old and most everyone they knew and loved is gone and they have become less themselves.

African Artifacts

I can see why Picasso was so enamoured of African art. It has such an energy to it. I love the masks, the textiles, the granary doors, and especially the power figures.
