The New Guinea Room at the Met

Last May I went to the Met in NYC with my friend Andrea, but I never got around to posting the pictures. There was something about this gallery at the Met that was so soothing. I think it was the color combinations, the blues and ochres and grays. Especially after being in some of the other galleries that were just a riot of color and jam packed with visitors.

Admittedly, some of the carvings were a little risque.

The ceiling canopy of shields was very striking (no pun intended).

It was an overcast day and the gray light coming through the huge floor to ceiling windows cast a cold light on all the carvings. It was nice though. I could have stayed there all day.

And then my friend Andrea was very kind to pose with some of the Western Civilization nudes. Isn't she a lovely model? Quite the Vanna White pose, I think.
I hate to point out the obvious, but there certainly is a different perception about certain aspects of the male anatomy. What's up with that?
